The purpose of this photograph of the south section of locus k1 is to illustrate the stratigraphy of deposits above the second apron, f532 and revetment wall top, f569 (noy yet excavated in this square). Soil features were all natural accumulations assigned separate numbers for the puposes of analyzing the ceramics and for accounting for excavations in two separate units spaced several years apart, f633, f634, f500, f517, f534. However, one can clearly see that the soil was continuously deposited either directly by the wind or by wash of the same type of soil from higher elevations during periods of heavy rain. Also shown are several large boulders whose source and depositional history is not known, f503, f504, f508, f525. Note in addition, the lack of pits, which indicates that after the temple mound complex was abandoned (probably in the late Mittani period) it was never re-occupied. [Input: RY01JW.j] |
