For an overall discussion of the principles of Stratigraphic Analysis see the grammar.
For a presentation of the stratigraphy of the Urkesh site as a whole see the Mozan Sitewide website.
With some 775 cubic meters excavated, the J2 unit presents the largest exposure so far for any given unit at Mozan, after the Palace Courtyard.
Excavations in J2 yelded the exposure of:
-
the monumental access to the Temple Terrace, used for more than 1500 years (form the EDII, about 2800 B.C. to the end of Mittani, about 1200 B.C.).
-
the Plaza
In this section you will find the final overview of the stratigraphy of this particular unit organized into:
-
emplacement: the static element of stratigraphy, explaining how we found things in the ground at the moment of exposure
-
volumetry: the graphic documentation of the features in sections, plans, daily sketches
-
deposition: the dynamic aspect of stratigraphy, explaining how thinks got in the ground
-
chronometry: the emplacement data is organized in time intervals deduced from the depositional inferences
