we started removing f203, natural accumulation under topsoil, on the southern part. The topsoil of this locus was previously removed in MZ17 by J2. We stopped stopped at the end of this feature, and we shifted the crew to remove the middle part of the east baulk. Then Under f108, a natural accumulation, we found a hard floor containing sherds laying flat, and pebbles. [Input: Q830RE.j] |

we continued removing f203, at the southern part. Then the feature began to chenge to f213, which was hard with too many small sherds and pebbles compacted with the soil. [Input: Q831RE.j] |

We started removing the southern part of the east baulk, until we reached the same level of all the the baulk which was excavating two days ago. [Input: Q903RE.j] |

First, we removed a lightly packed floor surface, f173, originally discovered as a part of k22. Under this was a mud glacis, f241, which continued to the west into k109. This a natural accumulation, f119. We did not find evidence of accumulation f118, which was atop f119 further to the south. In the north east corner we found that f119 covered the mud glacis, f123 and f31, that we previously exposed to the south and east respectively. [Input: Q909JW.j] |

Today, we excavated to trace a hard-packed mud glacis-like surface, f123, northward from a gently upward sloping mud surface in k108, into k22 and thence to the northern edge of k23. In k22 it rose more sharply and was covered by accumulation f119. In k23 it began to slope less severely and was covered by what we believe to be a Phase 7 mud glacis, f152. At the northern edge, was a badly deteriorated mudbrick structure and pot-smash which seems to be associated with pit a6. [Input: Q910JW1.j] |

Starting at the east end of the locus, we began to excavate an E-W trench 60cm wide and 200cm long through floor f148 to expose the south face of monumental wall, f11 to a depth of about 60 cm. After exposing the face, we excavated the top to expose the stone components on it. [Input: Q911JW1.j] |

As we began to excavate the narrow trench in k109 to probe for the monumental wall, f11, we extended it east to encompass all of this locus. At the end of the day we had reached the top memory stones and the first two rows of stones along the south face. [Input: Q912JW.j] |

We finished the excavation in the narrow trench to find the south face of monumental wall, f11 and the memory stones atop it. [Input: Q913JW.j] |

Tomorrow we will carefully explore the nature of the brick structure to determine its function. [Input: Q910JW1.j] |

Tomorrow we will extend the trench farther to the west and when operations with the elevator permit, extend the trench to the south until it intersects with the north face of the north baulk of k93. We must to this so that the full extent of the wall face can be seen from the observation platform. [Input: Q911JW1.j] |
