For an overall discussion of the principles of Stratigraphic Analysis see the grammar.
For presentation of the stratigraphy of the Urkesh site as a whole see the Mozan Sitewide website.
Two main stratigraphical sequences were investigated in J4:
1. The Akkadian level, at the lowest elevation reached in this unit.
2. The Mittani level, covering directly the high Akkadian levels beneath it.
In terms of the depositional process, we can note the following:
1. The Akkadian glacis which constitutes a part of the J6 glacis^3 made to protect a stone wall located on the west, J2 f129.
2. The reuilding phase in the Mittani period where a reorganization of the space took place.
3. A natural buildup pahse towards the late Mittani period, where he area was no longer in use.
Both emplacement and deposition have a clear configuration in each of the two main stages, with a high number of well defined structures.
Sections were drawn and daily sketch drawings documented features and items in volumetry. The phasing of excavated layers is documented in chronometry.
