Previous excavations by a German team exposed a monumental EDIII stone staircase and a bordering revetment wall extending to its south. Unit J1 explored the northern part of this wall and a ceremonial plaza to the south. This unit excavated the wall to the south.
Two main stages were investigated:
- the EDIII wall sysem and as it turned to the west, and
- a Mittani wall and staircase built as the EDIII wall was covered with natural accumulation.
There were two signifidcnt results:
- Although minor changes were mad documentee to the EDIII wall system to prevent damage fromwater erosion, it remained sacred and unused for other purposes until the Mittani Period, more that 1000 yers later.
- The entire plaza and wall system was covered by accumulation, which precipitated the construction of a new staircase and wall system to the west during the Mittani period.
Both emplacement and deposition are have a clear configuration in each of the two main stages, with a high number of well defined structures.
Sections were drawn and daily sketch drawings documented features and items in volumetry. The phasing of excavated layers is documented in chronometry.
