The purpose of this photograph of the south section of locus k107 is to illustrate the stratigraphy of deposits above the second apron, f556. Soil features were all natural accumulations assigned separate numbers, f539, f540, f547, for the puposes of analyzing the ceramics and for accounting for excavations in two separate units spaced several years apart. However, one can clearly see that the soil was continuously deposited either directly by the wind or by wash of the same type of soil from higher elevations during periods of heavy rain. Note the similarity to photographs, v527, of the south baulk of k1, located one square to the southwest, which had a similar depositional history. Also note the lack of pits, which indicates that after the temple mound complex was abandoned (probably in the late Mittani period) it was never re-occupied. [Input: RY01JW.j] |
