Urkesh was a large city from the dawn of history (early fourth millennium B.C.) until the latter part of the second millennium (about 1300 B.C.). During these twentyfive centuries of history, Urkesh shared in the overall political development of Syro-Mesopotamia, which is sketched here to provide the broad framework within which we may understand the growth and development of our city. The broad horizons of Urkesh history, designated according to events of its internal development, are outlined in the following pages. |
