Brief Overview

The cross-horizon typology of handle types found on this page is designed to illustrate handle types found across all time periods at Mozan. Not all types are currently illustrated. The lexicon gives the complete listing of handle codes and their associated definition. In addition, a list of shape codes including handles is further defined on the shapes-codes page.

There are few preserved handles in the Mozan corpus. The majority are solid tab or knob handles. Pierced handles, with the hole through the handle running from top to bottom, are also well represented in the corpus. The remaining handles are not well represented in the corpus and include strap handles (both with oval and rectangular sections), semi-circular shaped handles, and round handles.
