     Walking back up the hill, we get an overview of the thick deposits above the levels of the palace. The one exposed at the moment dates from about 1800 B.C.

From Palace to settlement (PDF 824K)



     The structures we see in the background are graves that look like small houses. From these, and from several other places on the tell dating to the same time frame (generally known as the "Khabur period"), come several objects of a very distinctive type.
