Clay artifacts

A large number of unusual or unclear clay artifact were found in J1. Some are too fragmentary to be identified so were categorized as “unknown” or “uncertain”. Some of the most interesting are listed below:

• Fragments of chariot: q19.2, q462.1, q498.3, q829.2, q1012.1
• Clay decorated plaques with geometric motifs: i35, i54
• Jewelry, most of all fragments of glass or frit bracelet: q10.1, q581.1, q552.1, q1175.7

• Clay frame with incised fishbone decoration, possibly door frame: i73

Clay wheels and disk

Many clay wheels and disk were found in J1. The wheels are usually larger than disk, with a outward flare around the hole for the hub, sometimes with a painted decoration. Clay disks are circular disks often (but not always) with a hole in the center. The size could vary wildly and they are shaped in pottery or secondary from pottery sherd re-worked, polished and pierced. The wheels were used for chariots and for animal figurines, while the disks are interpreted as bead, (loom) weight, wheels themselves or for other unclear purpose. Beads

A large number of beads were found in J1. Thes beads were made of different materials (below you can find a list of the most interesting beads divided by material), stone and semi-precious stone, clay, frit, metal. The frit and stone beads are the most common ones. Their shape vary from circular to cilindrical, with few more elaborated examples (for example q681.1). 14 small round frit beads (i19) were found toghether so probably belonging to a necklace. Moreover several shells have a hole so probably they should be considered as beads.
