5.1: Introduction
Secondary input refers to input that has to be processed by an intermediate program that will produce a .J file to be then used by the JD suite.
In some cases, the initial input on which these programs operate is originally entered in an Excel type format (e.g., with Typology of Pottery).
In other cases, the initial input is a formatted directory, as with the V and W directories.
Two spaces not allowed in VW, G\P and G\T filenames; if blank field is to be used, use dash.

5.3: FILELIST folder within W or W\LoRes folders
These files are generated by the VWX program.
The following file is generated within the G\SCR folder by the G program, starting f.

.G to .SCR rom a .G file within the I\G folder. The .SCR file is used to generate an AutoCAD plot (.DWG file).

Back to top: 5. Secondary Input: Files Generated by Programs
The file I\J\FILELIST.TXT (produced by the FILELIST-J.BAT batch file within the I\J folder) is required in order to process multiple input files in a single pass. The file is deleted after running the JD program.
The batch file RENAME –J.BAT is a temporary utility that allows a global change of files with extension .-J to extension .J (for repeated processing of input files).

This file serves as the input for the PTD program, and must be produced before running the program.

5.6: Strata assignment to elements other than features
The program S (see below, 22.7) operates automatically on the basis of the S batch file (see below, 21.4.4). It uses as input all the pertinent files found in the O folder.
It presupposes that a strata assignment J file be first processed by the JD suite. This file must contain a log in the format described above under 4.6.6.

5.7: Strata assignment to aggregates and element assignment to aggregates (and viceversa)
The program A (see below, 22.8) operates automatically on the basis of the A batch file (see below, 21.4.5). It uses as input all the pertinent files found in the O folder.
It presupposes that an aggregate assignment J file be first processed by the JD suite. This file must contain a log in the format described above under 4.6.6.
It also presupposes that the S program be first run, since the S program assigns strata to items and other elements that may define the aggregate, and are therefore used by the A program.

W t files
- Only two fields are allowed, and they are the same as the first two fields in other W files.
- The first field gives the drawing label. All labels with final 0 (W17t1600, W17t1610, W17t1620, etc.) always refer to files that contain the full drawing, while the others contain the detail.
- When there are more than nine details, the same full drawing is repeated in the pertinent (final zero) position. Thus, in the example below, for W17t1700 and W17t1710.
- The second field gives the element name. It must be of the type A16i0108 (with i, not a period) and leading zero(es).
- The detail is introduced by a tilde and identified by the appropriate number as per the pertinent special roster (thus, in the examples below, the numbers 4, 5, 611, etc.)

5.10: Typology of Pottery (Body and Shape Sherds)
An original Excel input is supposed. It follows the exact format of the form for either body or shape sherds (see figure below, which gives only the left hand side of the form).
Note that all extraneous lines (here, lines 1-4 and lines 7-8) must have a semi-colon (;) as the first character. They will then be disregarded by the TP program.
The Excel file name has no fixed format. It will include the initials of the people who entered the date and then proofread them. It is recommended that the filename be entered in the line immediately before the data, with a semi-colon initial. For changes in the filename when it is processed, see below, 18.2 [mistaken reference; ZGz10 mDP].
All lines that are not related to the data entry must begin with a semi-colon
The critical line in the form is line 5. It gives the codes that are used to define the fields in the J file. The full list is given below:
The first four fields (.rd, .ri, .bk, q#) must be filled in at the beginning and whenever they change.
Field F2 can be left blank because it will not be copied to the .TP file. It is only useful for internal checking of EXCEL files.
The sixth field (cp) must be filled in in all records. For body sherds, the numeration from 70 to 99 must be used (see Grammar 1: “The System”, 4.6). If a number is missing for an individual sherd, this presumably means that the physical sherd did not have a number written on it. In this case, numbers 69 and lower are used, with a note in the note field. This means that numbers from 70 up and from 69 down will not be written on the sherds, while numbers from 1 up will be written. As the system is fully implemented, the 69 and lower series will disappear.
