After digging the artificial security baulk we proceeded to dig inside the locus again. There the soil changed and we found a horizontal layer, with some stones and some sherds laying flat. In the section the layer beneath seems to be composed by a series of thin layers, with small lens of fine pebbles. The soil is softer, more greyish, maybe lenses created by the rain. Tomorrow we will check if this layer is the same that the one showing in the N section of the old k9-10. [Input: P802CVP.j] |

New feature, f153. We make the photo (v65) and continue to dig. It seems to be the same floor as in k32 but, as we have no real connection, we give it a new feature number. Also the consistency is not so soft. We give feature number f151 to the accumulation and f153 to the floor surface. As we dig that feature we begin to find a lot of fragments of bases of Mitanni goblets and the consistency of the earth gets harder, more difficult to work with the pick. [Input: P802CVP.j] |

We go on digging down. Earth quite hard but in flakes, layers. A broken part of a cylinder seal found. It is of geometric Djemdet Nasr style. We stoped digging here during some time just while the N baulk of k13 is removed. In order to avoid the contamination of the surface of k106, we covered it with plastic. We continued the excavation of the column without changing the feature, since it is the same grayish sandy earth. The only novelty is that we are reaching the level of the rest of the surface in k23 (dug in MZ16), so from tomorrow we will need to use a string to define the column area, that will be exactly the same as it has been up to now, with the trapezoid shape. Still digging the same feature, made of a lot of small layers. Depending on the layer there would be more or less pottery and pebbles, and the hardness and the color vary slightly, but it remains the same. we continue to go down in the column. pC believes the inclusions in the accumulation are changing and that there are more carbon and phytolith inclusions. We will clean this well tomorrow and look more closely to see if there is any change. Two items were uncovered in the eastern quadrant near the floating stones. i24 is a piece of bronze and i25 is a small piece of gold, a possible bead, see v93. [Input: P828MS1.j] |

Examined the accumulation we began uncovering yesterday and have decided to give it a new number, f184. pC believes the inclusions are of a different nature from f181 above it. vS thinks it is the same accumulation and also the same as the accumulation in front of the wall, and adjacent to k106, f151. We declared a new feature nonetheless although it might be the same as these two because this is where we may have the transition from Mitanni to 3rd Millennium and are watching all differences carefully. We have reached the current planned depth of k106 and have stopped excavating here. The elevation is 8800. pC and vS completed the east and north sections and we took photos, v95 and v96.
