Definition 2006-08-20 sC wall [Input: Q820SC2.j]
Description (summary) 2006-08-20 sC f10 has been assigned to a large group of limestones located in the North-West portion of k71, with a NW/SE orientation, which could be possibily part of a larger stone structure. f10 was almost completely exposed in 2001, when the German team directed by Prof. P. Pfalzner, dug a trench running W-E in this portion of the tell Terrace, T14, as visible in v6. f10 consists of large rectangular stones and of irregular ones, and the structure, seems to have a trapezoidal shape, with an orientation slightly oblique respect to the allignment of the Secondary Apron exposed in J02 area. The stones are embedded into mud mortar with small stones between the joints (characteristics that reminds the building tecnique of the secondary Apron). At present, it is unclear whether f10 continues further more to the North: in k71 f10 seems to reach its higher elevation, and no stones -at present- at visible in k70, located N and to a higher elevation respect k71. We have not dug yet in k71, and f10 seems to rest on f50 (and thus, f50 could be a possible floor surface). However, it could possibly be that f50 is an accumulation which covers the lower portion of f10 (in the S portion of the locus). f50 covers as well some isolated stones (such as f11 and f16), which probably originally belong to f10. At present, these stones have been labeled as different features from f10 since it is not clear whether they were part of f10: only by digging f50 this relationship will be clear. [Input: Q820SC2.j]

Recovery/Assignment

Roster Date Author Record
Evolution 2010-02-24 sC During the 2006 excavation season, we were thinking that f10 could be part of the secondary Apron as exposed in J02, altough f10 was located definitely higher in elevation respect to the Apron as it is exposed in J02 area. We noticed that this structure did not appear to continue in k81 nor in k72: this was taken as an indication that some of the stones of this portion of the secondary Apron could have been possibly moved and reused in later times. After the last two excavation seasons, however, it has been cleared that this structure is part of the revetment wall. For the new interpretation of f10, please, see area J06 f218. [Input: U224SC.j]
Notes on recovery 2010-03-07 sC The real bottom given in the elevation description does not correspond to the real bottom of the feature, since we stop digging in this locus and did not removed completely f50. The bottom elevation reported, has thus been taken where the lowest stone of wall f10 was visible. [Input: U306SC.j]

Stratigraphic reasons of assignment 2010-03-10 sC Problematic assignment. This stone installation, which appears to be similar to the Apron, seems to have been re-touched (possibly re-built) in later times; the allignment of the stones in the N portion of the locus have a nice arrangment while the stones in the middle portion of k71 seems to have been moved or not in their original context. f10 is cleary built on the slope of the tell, and the accumulation f50 -that goes against f10 in the S portion of k71- has not been removed. Excavations carried out in J03 and J02 Units indicate that the Apron rests on top of a glacis layer, and we think this is the case of f10. By removing f50 will be possibe to better understand whether also f10 rests on top of a glacis layer, which, has been exposed south to k71, in k72 (f127). [Input: U310SC.j]
