seated figure in long garment facing left, with left arm bent close to the body. The uppermost part of the stool is preserved and is divided into five or six squares in two rows.Shamash in i82 is seated on a similar stool.Behind the seated figure the inscription is carved in what appears to be a wide column. The inscription box portion of the seal may have been rolled over part of the scene in front of the seated figure. On the other side of the inscription box is a standing figure facing right in a long garment with the left arm forward and bent and the right arm across the body and may be holding something. Another part of the rolling appears to be flames and may indicate that the seated person is Shamash. However it is perhaps a table top with long narrow loaves of bread parallel to the top above. Studying the photos of the bulla it seems more likely, from the position of these parallel lines that they are the rays coming off the shoulder of Shamash. Or none of these speculations! i8 is the same seal as A10.119 from a docket excavated in A10 f194. The Ishar-beli seal impression depicts the seated god Shamash who is wearing a long garment; he is facing left, with his left arm bent close to the body holding a staff. His stool is divided into six squares in two rows. Shamash in A12 i82 (seal of ...tupsher) is seated on a similar but wider stool divided into nine squares. In i8 Shamash has his right arm extended toward the prancing equid while holding an object with three extended points. The horse is jumping toward the lap of Shamash. Behind the horse is a bearded figure wearing a long pleated skirt and what appears to be a hat with horns. This figure is holding the extended arm of another standing figure wearing a horned hat and a skirt that appears to have a fringe running down the two sides. This figure is holding with his right arm a small equid positioned over his right shoulder. Behind the seated Shamash is the inscription box with the name of the seal owner, Ishar-beli. This is placed over a standing bull with long horns facing right. This animal has a raised head so appears to be looking at the small animal. The theme of a prancing equid is also found in A9.27which is a crude imitation of the Ishar-beli iconography (923Kelly-Buccellati2015.htm Page 118, fig. 6). In this seal impression the equid is large and has the front legs touching the lap of the seated figure who is holding up a conical cup. Two other examples parts of this iconography are A1.461 with a standing figure with a small equid over the shoulder and A7.522 showing a horned animal with the head raised toward a figure in a fringed skirt.
