Designation

Roster Date Author Record
Description (summary) 2008-07-27 lR Hard light pink brick melt, uniform in color and texture with no inclusions visible such as stones or large sherds found in the entire locus. f7 is made of fine clay, likely formed from eroded mud brick melted by rain and baked in the sun. When we excavated this feature, the layer resulted in only being 7-10 cm in thickness. f7 was subsumed under f27, a feature created to term the entire brickmelt that was found in all five loci. [Input: S727LR4.j]
2008-08-11 lR A compact layer originally defined as brickmelt since the appearance resembled clay that had been melted from the rain, then baked by the sun forming a crust. We later redefined this feature after excavating it as the ancient tell surface at abandonment, with the compaction resulting from walking on the surface and natural rain and sun exposure. f27 was created to subsume all the compact brickmelt layers in A20 for ease in reference although the discrete feature numbers are still present according to loci. f7 was found in the entire locus. [Input: S811LR5.j]

Recovery/Assignment

Roster Date Author Record
Daily notes about recovery of elements 2008-07-14 lR fully exposed this feature today resulting in no clear brick surfaces however the matrix is compact like brick found 38-40 cms below the Tell surface; similar to melted brick layers seen in A16 and A18. [Input: S714LR.j]
