Brief Overview

The definition of what is a cup is the same for all units and all time periods in the UGR. See here for further details. The most important context so far in Urkesh for the Akkadian period is the royal palace of Tupkish with its two courtyards and various rooms investigated by us, see BM 30.

Conical cups continue to occur in the palace and in great numbers. Now they are not as finely made as in the ED III period, often have wheelmarks showing and have a string cut base. Other cup shapes are not nearly as numerous in the palace.
