Ordered input files as database
The ordered input is the basic archive upon which the browser edition is built. Thus it serves atthe same time as the basic underlying database, for the browser edition and other outputs derived through our own programs, and for alternative analyses serving the goals of independent research. In addition to the text files of the ordered input, the Data Bases section also make available certain data in tabular format (in particular the data pertaining to ceramic analysis of any given digital book), and all the graphic files pertaining to the same digital book. |

Durability and portability
Besides serving as a data base for further independent analysis, a major goal of the ASCII ordered input and of the standard format of the graphic files is to provide the maximum possible guarantee for the durability of the data.
The durability of the system as a whole (including the elaboration of the data and the production of the browser edition) is linked to the portability of the programs. I have not yet faced this issue directly, but it will be an important priority for the immediate future.
It should also be stressed that the data base of which we are talking refers exclusively to the analytical portion of the Urkesh Global Record (I estimate that it accounts for about 90% of its total content), not to the synthetic portion nor to the Urkesh website as a whole.

Contents of the database section
One may refer to the A16 digital book to see an example of the Data Base section. Besides an introduction, it contains a section on texts and another on graphics.
The texts are in turn divided between those in ordered input format and those in tabular format.
Following is the complete table of contents, with links to the A16 digital book as example.
