General notes on photos 2001-08-02 jlw the goal of this year's work was to excavate a number of squares between two known Phase 4 and Phase 5 settlements to see if there were any links between them. We stopped excavating a locus as soon as we encountered evidence of signficant architecture. The loci close to the gully suffered significant damage before they were completely covered by accumulation. The final photograph for k23 illustrates this point by highlighting a large wall, f288, that has suffered water damage and erosion. Only a single course of bricks at the top is readily distinguisable - the rest has conjealed into an amorphous mass that resembles pise. A layer of large stones just under the surface, f278, was preserved in the west baulk on a pedistle for future study since is clearly linked to a similar layer to the west in k22. [Input: L927JW.j]
