This q-lot is actually quite deep, 40cm, because the workman was following a layer down in the south-west corner of the square. So, although the depth is great, the actual amount of dirt removed was quite small, since the area excavated, being a layer sloping downwards into a corner, grew progressively less as the depth increased.
