Nature of interaction

The UGR cluster of websites constituta proper system. This means that they are tightly interconnected, in a fully interplanar mode: they are “written” following rigourosly the same “grammar” and presupposing the material that is covered in each of the components of the system.

This concerns deeply the interaction between analytical details that constitute the base for the argument (database) and synthetical and interpretive argument that is developed on that base. The different parts of each website expect each other: in other words, the nature of the interaction is an intrinsic component of the system as a whole, and not just a casual connection among parts.

Levels of interaction

Within the system, there are two major levels of interaction: within each unit book, and across the system among all websites.

Overview

Within any given website dedicated to a single excavation unit, there are two major sections, accessed respectively from the left side bar (in red) and the right side bar (in black).
The right hand side contains the links to the analytical data, sorted according to the basic constituents of the recording system. These are the actual data as recorded in the field. Chronologically, this is the first part to be written.
The left hand side contains the links to the synthetic section. This is written partly in conjunction with the excavations and partly, or mostly, soon afterwards. It contains the interpretive understanding of the data on the part of the excavators. It is typically the first part available for reading the website.
