Glyptics (Version 1)

The Data. Catalogs

Introduction

This section includes the entire glyptic corpus from ancient Urkesh for the late third and the second millennium (the Early Dynastic corpus is treated in a separate website).

I include here only the sealings, whether preserved as such or produced by us from an original seal. For a study of the seals as such, including the aglyptic impressions on preserved sealings, see the section on SUPPORT.

The data are organized in three different ways:

  • the catalog by typological label lists all the sealings in sequential order, sorted by the TGL label assigned to each seal;
  • the catalog by theme lists the seals, including drawings, photos and notes, sorted according
    • to the theme of the overall composition (whether fully preserved or only partly, as with TGL.ha2 and TGL.ha3, or according to
    • and adding in a separate section the fragments that have only isolated compositional elements;
  • the catalog by field number lists all the sealings sorted by the orignal field number from the excavation.
