3. Environmental conditions

Giorgio Buccellati – August 2010

Chapter 3 of the digital monograph: Site conservation

NOTE: on this topic, cf. also the dedicated topical book on “CONSERVATION”.

Climate can be quite harsh at Mozan, some of the extremes are documented in this website section on weather.

Since 2001, a very detailed record has been kept of temperature and humidity.

One important consideration with regard to the curtains used in the localized shelters is the negative impact of the winds.

They can be so strong that the curtains:

  1. may act as sails and threaten the stability of the structures;
  2. may tear the individual panels to shreds, especially those made of a lighter material like burlap.

This was one of the reasons why I moved to a panel design that would face this problems, namely smaller panels with strong borders.
