Description/Count
description (summary) 2001-8-25 jl This very red layer under f369 was not excavated enough to really get a feel for its contents. However, it actually seems to be a series of thin red layers, with thin brown layers in between them. It is apparently closely related to, if not the same as, f372, although it is not level. Could it be the product of water pouring down a slope? [Input File: L825jl.j]
2001-7-24 jl This is the red layer with white inclusions observed under f369 in k27. Right now, it seems to occupy only the western half of the locus and to slope down to the west and south. [Input File: L822jl.j]
notes on designation and count 2002-9-10 jl ms and I observed today that the material in the northern half of the feature is rather different from the southern half. In the north, the material is a solid red, while in the south, it is predominantly brown with red, bricky chunks, eventually merging into the brown f369. In all cases, the soil is very damp, compact, and gummy, almost like clay. [Input File: M914jl.j]
2002-9-13 jl This layer seems to be linked to f372. Our discovery of the striations on the north of f371 (v___) led us to excavate the laminations there as a layer. Much of what we called f371 lay on top of these laminations. However, the upper f371 material which we removed merged gradually with f369 in the south and west. It is possible that there were never three features in this layer: there may have only been f369 (the dirty brown which looks much like f392, above) and f372, the red-brown laminations. f371, although its solid red was very distinctive at its higher levels, may have only been the misunderstood intersection between these two features. Recovery/Assignment
notes on recovery 2001-8-13 jl Some of the lowest levels of f369 were probably f371. At the time, we did not understand that it was a series of thin layers, rather than one thick red layer. So, we were searching for a clear red layer, and could never find it. It is also possible that it did not slope quite as sharply as our excavations revealed it, if we were actually excavating material from it on the north side. Still, it is a difference of only a few centimeters. [Input File: L813jl.j]

Axial Definition
notes on axial definition 2001-8-13 jl This feature sloped up against the north wall of a33. If it is actually equal to f372, it is curious that it suddenly levels out, especially given the sharpness of its slope. [Input File: L813jl.j]
