Notes on pottery
2007-09-05
mKB
This vessel was not produced by a craftsman specialized in making ceramics but rather is a household produced vessel made by a non-specialized potter. This type of coarse and poorly made pottery was usually made for grave offerings and was found in A16 in
f206
, part of a grave. Handmade or partially handmade ceramics as grave offerings only occurred in the Khabur period and more than likely point to a level of socio-economic stress due to the local political situation described in the Mari letters regarding the political situation in Urkesh.
