Description/Count
description (summary) 2006-8-16 eDB A line of large limestone blocks (f112 = f208, f117 = f206, f130 = f205, f132 = f207) running E-W relatively close to the surface. Their relative positions suggest that they were intentionally placed, possibly as a part of a wall or enclosure. Their proximity to the surface also suggests that they were moved to their current position. It is unclear when they were placed and it could range from the late Mittani period through the Middle Assyrian period which immediately followed, to a much later time associated with scattered occupation. Recovery/Assignment
notes on recovery 2006-8-30 jW We began removing the four E-W stones today. Their pedistal and the soil surface on which the two N-S stones rested (f147) provide an opportunity to collect a ceramic sample to determine if the installation was used during the time after Mittani occupation. We expect that it was probably built by Middle Assyrians because the bottom of the stones was about 15cm above the mud glacis, f152, which was likely kept clean by Mittani temple worshipers. notes on volumetric localization 2006-8-30 jW while plotting relays of the outline of the "L" shaped arrangement of the large limestones and their individual shapes which were excavated in k13 and k23, jW noticed that one of the stones had not been assigned a feature number. Furthermore, it was not possible to positively identify which stones of the E-W line of four were previously designated. We assigned new feature numbers (f205, f206, f207, f208) to the stones and relayed each again. [Input File: Q830jW4.j]
