This photograph was taken to illustrate the excavated, but artificial boundaries between the baqaya and wahal glacis. Although we did not realize it at the time, the wahal glacis, f152 and f123 was laid over the original baqaya one, f109. As a result we excavated through the wahal in k13, thinking that it was a layer of natural accumulation. The result is shown on the left side of the photograph. Learning from this experience, we stopped excavating in k23 and k108 when we reached the wahal, which is shown on the right side. The north-south boundary is irregular due to changes in the slope of the baqaya, f109 and some damage from foot traffic. One can also see several pits, a5 and a6, and brick structures, f215 and f270 at the northern edge of locus k23. [Input: RX31JW.j] |
