The Level of the Plaza

Giorgio Buccellati – June 2006

We assume that the actual elevation of the Plaza is at 8500 – which is the level of the floor of the formal wing of the Palace.

But we have not reached it in any of the soundings. We will do so in front of the wall in J1.

This will also show us what is the exact shape of the escarpment that links the Plaza with the base of the revetment wall.

In J1 we will be able to reach the level of the Plaza, which should be a little less than 2 m below the level reached in the 2005 excavations.

The area in red shows approximately the intended area of excavation, in front of the wall and won along the slope of the escarpment to the level of the Plaza.
