A compact gray surface incorporating small pebbles and ceramic sherds abuts the two stones below the first step of ^stair2, which may represent an additional step belonging either to ^stair1 or to ^apron1. The surface also abuts the stone located between ^apron1 and ^stair2, which appears to have been inserted as a patch stone to connect the two structures. The floor was firstly exposed in season 2001 (C2Inst.918) at the elevation of 87.20m immediatly adjacent to the first step of ^stair2 and descending to 87.00m at the distance of 6m south, then rising again about 20cm. The same floor was documented in season 2005 with the feature J2f179, which sealed J2f194 in the same place at the elevation of 87.21m. The description of the feature is of a brownish-yellow hard accumulation containing gypsum and pebbles. In season 2009 a gray layer J2f392 was recorded in the western section of J2k100 at the elevaion of 87.20m. The layer is in section about 10cm thick and gray in colour. A comparison between the eastern section of Unit C2, published by the German team, and the western section of J2k100 indicates that these features represent the same floor. In the eastern section of J2k100 the same floor was recorded (J6w109). Beneath this floor lies a thick, gray-reddish layer (J2f209), which covers the upper step of ^stair1. This layer may represent a deliberately prepared subfloor, laid to provide a foundation for the overlying floor. This relationship is clearly visible in section J2w210. [Input: ZK626pC.j] |
