Description (summary) 2000-07-03 jl the ^a in k26. This ^a is clearly separate from that in k27. While excavating a few pickruns in k27, we discovered that it pressed against the very smooth face of k26. We still don't know the cause of the fissure. However, because the face of k26 is so smooth, we are presuming for the moment that it is older, and will therefore dig in k27. [Input: K705JL.j]
2000-07-05 jl For some reason, I remembered this accumulation as being mostly free from pottery, but it is in fact quite dirty in terms of pottery and bones, much like the ^a in k27. [Input: K705JL.j]

Daily notes about recovery of elements 2000-07-06 jl Today, while excavating in the ^a in k26, we came across a very interesting discovery. The ^a to the W of the fissure for about 30cm horizontally is in fact not ^a at all: it appears to be the crumbled top of a wall, a circular wall with the ashy ^a f307 piled against it, and the top of f308 (presumably) below that. Also, there is a possible plaster face partly preserved on the E side. If these observations are indeed correct, then it would solve many of our problems. The existence of a wall would explain the fissure and the lack of intersection between the strata on either side, and a coat of plaster would explain the smooth W face of the fissure. The presumed wall is itself bricky and red, but we cannot yet see individual bricks. [Input: K706JL.j]
