Chipped stones

K1.26 is an obsidian blade. Over 800 obsidian artefacts have been recorded in our excavations at Tell Mozan, dated to the third and second millennium BCE. Obsidian is not found locally, and indicates long-distance exchange. Of the Mozan examples, 97 have been subjected to geochemical and magnetic analyses, which revealed their Anatolian origin (Frahm 2010; Frahm and Feinberg 2013).

Ground stones

The other three lithic artefacts from K1 are grinding stones. The precise types are not recorded, but such objects are typically made of basalt or other similar stone suitable for grinding. They are usually used in the processing of agricultural products.
