Bronze pins
The bronze pins are similar to others found at Tell Mozan, including as part of burials. They are of slightly different sizes, and each have an ‘eye’ a few cm from the flat or rounded head. K1.22 has a small bronze ring still in place in the ‘eye’.
These objects were likely used as fasteners on garments, and provide a tantalising hint at textiles unfortunately not preserved. Such garment pins were also found in many of the ED III tombs in the southern Mesopotamian cemetery of Ur, made of copper/bronze, silver or gold (Gansell 2007). Here, they were part of ‘sets’ worn by the deceased, along with various other elements of jewellery and fine wear.
