Continued to excavate below the topsoil in the north half of the locus, preserving a 40cm-wide baulk along the south edge to protect the north section of k108, immediately to the south. There are two distinct features visible: to the east is an accumulation with a hard surface, f166; to the west is an accumulation with areas of laminations, f165. Both were removed, leaving a uniform, softer brown accumulation, f167, throughout the locus. At the end of the day, we exposed another soft and more red accumulation, f168. [Input: Q821JW1.j] |

Continued to excavate throughout the north half of the locus. Removed accumulation f168, in which sat a large limestone block f169, which was left in place. Underneath f168 was a packed earth floor with pebbles and sherds laying flat throughout. Designated this floor as f173, and the accumulation above it, f168 as a living accumulation. We removed north baulk to the exavated level of accumulation f147 in k23. We measured the elevations of the floor, f170, and the top and bottom of the tannur in the locus adjacent to the east, k12. The floor was at elevation 9200, the tannur top at 9268, and the bottom at 9213. This establishes a tentative stratigraphic equality between the two. Because the floor was not recognized when the locus directly to the south, k108, was being excavated. we cannot establish a more definite link. [Input: Q823JW3.j] |

Swar and So'd removed the north baulk of k108 in order to have a full view for the floor, f173, under it. [Input: Q824RE.j] |

After drawing and photographing the north part of the east baulk, we began to remove it. [Input: Q826JW.j] |

As we were establishing the relationship between the packed mud glacis, f152 and the baqaya glacis, f109, we noticed an apparent discontinuity in the baqaya in the far northeast corner of the locus. A few days earlier, while excavavating with the big pick in the same place, we found an apparently isolated, broken, reddish brick. During this exploration of the baqaya we noticed in the baulk a brick, f192 that abutted the baqaya, indicating that there may have been a structure either of brick or with a brick foundation at this location.
