We first removed a small ledge of accumulation, f69, along the south baulk that had built up during the excavation of the animal burial, f61. We then excavated the SW protrusion, f70 reaching the wall almost immediately after an extension of less than 50cm. These features and the wall were then photographed, v29. [Input: P903JW.j] |

To improve safety, we removed a small, overhanging ledge of accumulation above the eastern edge of this "L" shaped locus. Because it was a small quantity of clean loess and there was no pottery in it, the ledge was not assigned a separate feature number. [Input: P904JW.j] |

At the suggestion of gB, we agreed to speed our investigation of the construction of the wall by forming a new locus consisting of the southern half of k104 with a further southern extension in the western half of the south baulk to meet the monumental wall, f11. In this way we can continue the typological column in a reduced area nevertheless expected to yield diminished quantities of the same kinds of pottery, while at the same time seeing how the monumental wall was constructed. The western section of the baulk was selected to minimize the danger posed by overhanging stones from both f10 to the east and f11 to the south. [Input: P903JW.j] |
