2. IDENTIFICATION

Designation

Roster Date Author Record
Description (summary) 2005-08-23 rE Large limestone block in the south half of k12, founded on several layers from top to bottom consisting of brownish soil, a layer of soil mixed with brick chunks, and a reddish layer resembling packing. Originally thought to have been floating, it may well have been part of the west end of the second millennium apron, f10. The gap between this stone and the apron may have been filled by the stones f39, f40, f48 and f88, which washed out and down to the south face of f11 just to the south. [Input: Q302JW1.j]

Deposition

Roster Date Author Record
Notes on deposition 2005-08-23 jW We originally thought that this large stone was one of a number of unfounded floating stones to the north of monumental wall, f11. However, in light of the fact that the layers underneath are similar to those under the extant stones of apron, f10, immediately to the east of f55, this stone may well have been part of the apron's western end. 2012-10-07 jW Isolated stone that sits in accumulation f33. [Input: WX07JW.j]
Other reasons, reservations, qualifications 2006-04-26 jW May be isolated part of western end of f10 apron to monumental wall, f11. Stones f40, f48, f85, and f91 found at the south outside edge of f11 may have been companions. [Input: Q426JW.j]
2012-10-07 jW Along with stones f35 and f36, and stone installation f72 these may be the extant components of the damaged far western edge of construction related to the second apron f10. The stones roughly rest on the same early Mittani accumulations as and fall within the north and south boundaries of the apron. [Input: WX07JW.j]

Disposition

Removed (feature), discarded/missing (item) 2005-08-23 jW We removed f55 with great reluctance on P823 after relaying it. It was removed in order to provide a place to excavate a test trench, k104, behind the monumental wall, f11, to see explore how the wall and the temple BA mound were constructed. [Input: P823JW.j]
