2. IDENTIFICATION

Designation

Roster Date Author Record
Description (summary) 2010-09-13 jW We originally noticed this feature as pockets of soft brown soil with occasional smaller areas of black ash. Portions of two burned animal bones were found in the accompanying q-lot, q411. However, as we excavated it further, we can see that at its thickest point it is a relatively thin (10cm) band of ashy soil which extends in a rough pattern bounded by a circle of diameter 1 meter. [Input: U914JW.j]
2010-10-07 jW A pocket of disturbed soil formed by a colony of social animals. Our first analysis concluded that it was the fill of a pit, but as the k13 east section was examined prior to drawing, one could see the individual burrows which cut through f346 and intruded into the top of wall, f348. [Input: V206JW.j]

Stratigraphic reasons of assignment 2012-10-07 jW At the time of excavation, our first impression was that this was the fill of a pit. Later, when the section was examined, it was clear that this was the residue from a colony of burrowing animals. Because this colony could have been active at any time after the f348 wall was built, we assigned it to the highest stratum available. [Input: WX07JW.j]
Typological reasons for assignment 2012-10-07 jW Ceramics from this feature were securely dated to the LC3 period. [Input: WX07JW.j]
Other reasons, reservations, qualifications 2012-10-07 jW We can resolve the conflict in favor of the higher stratum because although the burrowing disturbed f346 and f348, it did not transport sherds from higher strata. [Input: WX07JW.j]
