Size and volume of excavations

The excavations in A12 began with seven 5x5m loci from A10 (k13-k19) transferred to A12 and numbered k1-k5, k7 and k11). An additional 12 loci were added to these, through k22. There were an additional 13 loci over the next four seasons, through MZ16. These were primarily inside of Building W and dictated by the shape of the ābi.

The estimated contributions from the above are:
  k1 to k22 - (25sqm) x (2m) x (19loci) = 950 cubic meters
  It is more difficult to estimate the cubic meters excavated from the other loci which varied considerably in shape and depth.
