Recovery/Assignment

Roster Date Author Record
Daily notes about recovery of elements 2001-07-03 sb the large jar i10 is broken, upside down as the incised decoration at the bottom suggests. Such decoration is never at the bottom of a jar. So the jar has been reused although broken, and was embedded in the niche. It is possible that in the first use of this room, the room's walls and the niche were plastered, and that in a second time this jar was inserted in the niche, blocked with bricks, and the brick was replastered. [Input: L709okk.j]
2001-07-07 sb gb is saying that in k100, the NE part behind the andiron, and next to the wall f7 may not be a wall as expected. We don't see clear bricks but a mortar line. [Input: L709okk.j]
2001-07-08 sb in the NE part Faris has finished digging. gb came and said he is as baffled as we are. In the NW part, near the large jar we found i17, a clay artifact, a kind of mushroom shape. Also, more flat bricks and a mud platform along the wall. [Input: L709okk.j]
2001-07-11 okk In this locus we took out the rest of the vessels that were part of a couple of pot smashes and decided that we would excavate some of the accumulation above floor f21 in the doorway to the eastern room to see if the floor continues from aggregate 1 into the adjoining room. We also took pictures in this aggregate in order to document the state of the wall (or not wall). In particular we were trying to document that both of the walls don't appear to be very well preserved walls; one of the walls has holes in it that have water laminations, the other has an animal hole and small dirt holes. We are going to try to find the face again, but every time we try to find the face of the E-W wall it seems to disappear. Thus we took a photo in case it disappeared. [Input: L722okk.j]
2001-09-05 okk We excavated vessel i3 first, then vessel i10, and recorded them with pictures and took them out for possible reconstruction. [Input: L905okk.j]
Strategy (projected or implemented) 2001-07-03 sb We have to find the face looking E of the wall f7, which is still hidden under brickfall. This is behind the andiron. [Input: L709okk.j]
2001-07-07 sb gb suggests to remove part of the baulk, to see the relationship with the possible wall. [Input: L709okk.j]
2001-07-11 okk Some considerations about the four northern squares, k1,k2,k11,k12. It is interesting to consider what type of use area it might have been, especially because we have a good floor in floor f21 and some interesting assemblages: we have pot smashes that represent at least seven vessels on the floor as well as five vessels from the bin. There is also two vessels in the northern part of the room, one in the niche and one in front of the doorway. There is also the quern and the hearth. [Input: L722okk.j]
2001-07-12 okk To excavate the remainder of f64, the accumulation above the floor f87. [Input: L713okk.j]
2001-09-05 okk We decided to excavate the two vessels which have remained in k100, and then the andiron tomorrow, attempting to preserve the bridge. [Input: L905okk.j]

Time Sequencing

Roster Date Author Record
Notes on time sequencing 2001-07-07 sb The house in k1 is the latest phase, phase b, and there is no phase c. The doorway is clear, but we don't know if it is a connection between 2 rooms or between our side and inside. [Input: L709okk.j]
