notes on labeling 2008-8-11 lR This feature was excavated under the label f27, q83 and q156 are from f18. Relays are are under label f27. [Input File: S811lr5.j]

Description/Count
description (summary) 2008-7-15 lR Compact bricky surface present in all four opened loci in A20 (k12, k13, k2, k3). The layer is solid and hard, presumably the abandonment layer of melted Mittani mud brick structures. [Input File: S715lr.J]
2008-8-11 lR A compact layer originally defined as brickmelt since the appearance resembled clay that had been melted from the rain, then baked by the sun forming a crust. We later redefined this feature after excavating it as the ancient tell surface at abandonment, with the compaction resulting from walking on the surface and natural rain and sun exposure. f27 was created to subsume all the compact brickmelt layers in A20 for ease in reference although the discrete feature numbers are still present according to loci. f18 was found in the eastern half of k12 becoming thinner towards the south. Recovery/Assignment
daily notes 2008-7-15 lR Found this layer under f6 today, by the end of the day the feature was fully exposed in the eastern half of the locus showing a gradual sloping down to the south. [Input File: S715lr.J]
2008-7-16 lR The southern area of this feature is beginning to show soft ashy soil mixed with more compact bricky material. Several small tannur pieces were found with similar matrix present to the south in k2. The relationship between f18 and this ashy material is unclear. In some places f18 was found below, sloping down but then f18 disappears. [Input File: S716lr.J]
