Why did I choose to dedicate the topical book on Mozan ceramics to Bill? He was a neighbor in Mozan. I had a very small office that was connected by a door to the Photographic studio – this was where Bill worked at registering all the photographs the photographers would take every season – a very challenging job since it entailed Bill and the photographers who had to meet and choose together the best photos out of the very many the photographers would take each season. Once chosen, practically on a daily basis if the photographer could spare the time, Bill had to register them digitally with a challenging precision he was very good at. But .... when I needed photographs to carry out my work on the ceramics or other objects we had excavated he would immediately help me by finding them. He would even go into the ceramics processing area and consult with the team working there on the ceramics to be sure that he was choosing the photos I needed . Consequently at times my efficiency depended on him!!!
Back in Los Angeles we worked together in the Mesopotamian lab at the Cotsen Institute where he was registering digitally the many photographs we had taken before digital cameras were available for archaeologists to use. There too if I needed photographs he would find them and if not immediately he would work from home right away to find them and send them to me.
Bill always worked with a smile, always with a friendly, positive attitude even when the work he was doing was stressful. Bill was a very good friend and I think of him often.
