Introduction

A goal of the Mozan site conservation project is to provide a fully exhaustive documentation of the original situation and of the follow-up conservation work. Because of the great quantity of detail involved, this belongs in the Urkesh Global Record, and specifically in the two sections pertaining respectively to the Tupkish Palace and the Temple and Temple Terrace.

Introduction

A major goal of our monitoring system has been to provide an accurate and comprehensive record of the state of the walls over the years. An enormous amount of detail has been generated, and the continuing progress of our work will add even more – both as a result of new material deriving from the ongoing excavations, and because of additional observations and parameters that are being added to our system.

The data properly belong in the section of the website devoted to the RECORD. While in principle the individual walls ought to be treated under the heading of the unit where they were first excavated (A1, A6, etc.), the palace walls are in fact treated under the heading of area AP. Several of the walls straddle excavation units, and since the conservation project started after the entire service sector of the Palace had been cleared, the typological approach that is possible within the purview of the AP digital book is clearly preferable.

The system as a whole

Each sector is treated separately, with a link on the left vertical bar (green square).      In each sector there is a link to the individual rooms (yellow square), where the individual walls are listed (red square), with a link to a full treatment of the same wall.      This treatment appears in the main frame. It includes: (1) a descriptive analysis of the conditions of the wall; (2) a link to drawing of the wall face (violet square and arrow); (3) a sequential set of photographs taken over the years.

Components

A variety of individual components are distinguished, in particular: wall faces, wall tops, doorjambs. These are explained under labeling.
