2. IDENTIFICATION

Designation

Roster Date Author Record
Description (summary) 2005-08-16 rE A very hard, ashy accumlation in the south half of k101. It abuts the south face of the temple mound wall, f11, and extends to the southern, eastern, and western limits of the locus, k12. There are some small charcoal inclusions. Because it seals the accumulations below, it has great promise of preserving the stratigraphy of the early and middle phases of the wall's construction and use. However, it is doubtful that we will be able to excavate here in the time remaining in this season, and it marks a good stopping point for MZ18. [Input: Q302JW1.j]

Deposition

Roster Date Author Record
Notes on deposition 2005-08-24 jW One possibility is that it represents the residue from the destruction of one of the earlier phases of the BA temple which washed down the mound, over the wall and was deposited. We hypothsize that this surface was in place and visible when the monumental staircase and apron were built during the temple's Mitanni phase. [Input: P824JW2.j]

Typological reasons for assignment 2012-10-07 jW No ceramics or items recovered. [Input: WX07JW.j]
Other reasons, reservations, qualifications 2005-08-22 gM Highest surface south of f11 wall that may be the result of Mittani occupation. Stop point for excavations in k11/k101 for season MZ18. [Input: P822GM.j]
2012-10-07 jW This accumulation was not excavated as it was the lowest level excavated directly south of the revetment wall f11 which it abutted. Equivalent late Mittani accumulations are to be found in adjacent loci to the east. [Input: WX07JW.j]
Notes on time sequencing 2005-08-24 jW Compared elevations of this hard-surfaced ashy feature, which abuts the south side of wall, f11, to the elevation of a similar feature in J1. The elevation of f43 is 8982, while the elevation of the J1 feature is 8971. We conclude that the surfaces are part of a continuous deposit extending along the entire region south of the S face of the monumental wall f11. [Input: P824JW2.j]
