Brief Overview

The definition of what is a stand is the same for all units and all time periods in the UGR. See here for further details. The excavated Mittani period ceramics are much more numerous than the corpus we have excavated for either the Khabur or the Middle Assyrian periods. Many of the contexts are associated with the Plaza situated in front of the temple terrace BT.

While jar stands have been present in Mozan since the Early Dynastic period the ones produced in the Mittani period now can have an undulating rim which carries over into the Middle Assyrian period. This rim would make the stand and the vessel it was supporting more stable. Some stands are decorated with ribbing on the body or could have a narrow incised geometric design.
