ACTION: We finished excavating the accumulation, f287, between the northenmost stones of ^esc1, f188, and the top of an earlier wall, f284, which formed the foundation for the revetment wall, f189. RESULT: We were hoping to find enough ceramics to help date the time of construction of f284, but there were fewer than 20 sherds after two days of excavation in that restricted space (about 20cm), almost all of which were body sherds. The most mKB could say was that they were earlier than the revetment wall, f189, which was built during the Early Dynastic period. Because we dug down as much as 20cm we could tell that the stones of f284 were large and dressed. They formed a smooth face on the top and on the south side. [Input: T826JW.j] |
