‘Memory Stones’ and glacis

A modification phase was recorded across the Temple Terrace in units J2, J3, J1, J5. Also in J6 we recorded a modification: a new course of stones is placed on top of the eastern staircase wall in J6. As we observed this phenomenon of adding a new course of stones on top of earlier structures in all the Temple Terrace structures, we refer to these as “memory stones”. A hard and compact surface ^glacis1 covers all the area, east and south of ^wall6. This surface follows the preexisting slope of this area, which is southeast. Probably there are structures to the east which grew rapidly in the previous phases (see ^wall7) and created this slope.

Courtain wall

A line of stones wall4 is placed on top of the glacis glacis1. The function of the wall is to frame accumulation rising in the Plaza.

Bin

A half-moon stone and mudbrick structure a7 is built on top of the glacis1. The interior is paved with pebbles. We excavated this structure during excavations in Unit J4. To have a complete description and interpretation see bin a2. It was used for storage, unfortunatly the interion was empty.
