Description (summary) 2006-08-29 sc This is a natural accumulation under f58 in k74. It has a platy structure once picked with the small pick and it is hard in consistence; it is very fine texture and presents patches of compact and loose soil. This feature covers a lot of sherds and broken vessels and two tannur. It has a graysh color when removed. [Input: Q902SC.j]

3. STRATIGRAPHY

Recovery/Assignment

Roster Date Author Record
Evolution 2010-02-17 sC In the light of what found in J06 during the 2008-9 excavation seasons, it is probable that f64 is the top-most portion, in J04, of what in J06 Unit has been defined as 'dump^1'. In J06, the features representing the so called 'dump^1' -which is the latest level before the abandonment subsequent to the extended brickfall bf^1 (please, see J06 'dump^1' and related features for further information)- present the same characteristics and the same type of inclusions as f64, i.e.,: the soil is compact with patches of softer soil, and the soil matrix is characterized by an abundant presence of pebbles, animal bones, small and medium size stones, by a large quantity of pottery sherds and some tannur fragments and slope toward south. In J06 Unit the pottery recovered within features belonging to 'dump^1' are Mittani sherds. In digging f64, several Mittani sherds have been found (cfr. file Q903mKB) altough some later pottery sherds have been recovered as well togheter with ashes and small brick fragments, and this is due to the fact that f64 is the top-most surface of the dump, and as, such was slowly covered by natural accumulations. Above f64, we have been digging only natural accumulations which are poor in pottery sherds or materials which suggest that the area was not in use. [Input: U216SC3.j]
Notes on recovery 2010-02-11 sC The real bottom of this feature has not been reached, since we stop digging in this locus. Therefore, 91.19 does not correspond to the real bottom elevation of f64. [Input: U211SC.j]

Stratigraphic reasons of assignment 2010-03-10 sC Assignment based on elevation and analysis of pottery recovered. Similar to features that in J06 are defined as dump, which is the latest event in the area after the brickfall, in consequence of which a lot of materil was dumped to the West). f64 in particular is the upper part of the dump^1. [Input: U310SC.j]
Typological reasons for assignment 2010-03-10 sC Phased to Mittani period by pottery analysis. q129 presents: phase 4 sherds, 1 Khabur, 1 Mittani. q130 presents: Khabur mixed to Mittani. q158 presents: Khabur mixed to Mittani and 1 sherd of phase 4 (mKB Q830). q159 presents Mittani sherds and it includes as well phase 4 and 1 possible phase 5 sherds (mKB Q903).
