Description (summary) 2006-09-21 sC f158 is a very fine and clayish accumulation in k100. It is characterized by the presence of brick fragments, which are concentrated in a small area close to the N section of k100, as visible in v85. The feature is very compact and hard in consistence, but, once removed, it is very crumbly; among the soil matrix stone fragments (small in dimensions, some of which were aprox. 10cm), chalcite pebbles and phytolits have been noticed. The feature slopes toward the S portion of the locus, and the difference between the top elevation in the N portion of the locus is of 13cm respect to the top elevation in the S portion of the locus. Recovery/Assignment

Roster Date Author Record
Lack of expected information 2010-02-28 sC As said in the description of f158 this feature was characterized by the presence of brick fragments, phytolits and small stone fragments. These were concentrated particulary in a small area close to the N section of k100 (70cm W and 50cm S from r89); a general and a particular view of these elements within the feature were taken, but unlucky both are unfocused; the general view is v85, while the tide view (showing the phytolits) is v85a. [Input: U226SC.j]
Evolution 2010-03-31 sC Thanks to the excavations carried out in k100 in 2008 and 2009 (during these excavation seasons k100 was incorporated within J06 unit as k84), it has been possible to understand the nature of J04 f150, J04 f158 and J04 f160 (and partially the lowest portion of f121), i.e., the layers found while doing the deep sounding in J04 k100. As seen, J04 f150, J04 f158 and J04 f160 are the same of J6f164 which is a glacis layer (cfr. J06^glacis 3) made to protect a stone wall located on the west, J02 f129. The pottery recovered within J6f164 revealed Chalcolithic sherds, dating this and other layers related with this (cfr. for example, J06 f158, J06 f168, J06 f164 and all the features within s49 in J06 unit) back to the 3rd millennium BC (cfr. analysis of the pottery on S901 by MKB) thus revealing that in this portion of the tell mound 3rd millennium BC layers were located right below Mittani accumulations. This explains now better why, in the pottery analyzed during the 2006 excavation season, there were Mittani sherds mixed with Chalcolithis, which was not really clear at that time. [Input: U331SC.j]

Stratigraphic reasons of assignment 2010-03-10 sC Assignment based on elevation and and on pottery analysis. f158 it is covered by dateable feature (f150) and it is phased to the Calcholitic period on the base of pottery analysis (mKB, communication to all Mozan staff at the end of the 2006 excavation season). [Input: U310SC.j]
Typological reasons for assignment 2008-08-16 mKB date determined by looking at shapes and decoration only; pottery q lots will receive a full analysis at a later time. Date unclear based on the mixed nature of the ceramics and based on preliminary examination of shapes and decoration [Input: S831mKB.j]
