Description (summary) 2009-03-18 jW A square, immediately to the south of k13. It delimits the previously excavated (as unit J1) region containing revetment wall, f189. Daily notes about recovery of elements 2008-08-24 lH We started removing the natural accumulation, f158, after we photographed the water chanel, v104, that cuts its way through this accumulation. We began to cut a new section of the east face of the east baulk in order to dig effectively for the escarpment of revetment wall, f3. The escarpment begins and can be seen clearly as feature 239 in J1 and continues to the west. It most probably ends as f74 of wall f41 in the middle of J5. [Input: S824LH2.j]
2008-08-25 lH Today we removed the compact natural accumulation, f158, especially the part that abuts the revetment wall. The upper sloping part of the red, stone-like escarpment, f169, appeared under the accumulationof f158. We started to follow the escarpment which slops pasically towards the south in this locus. 2008-08-26 lH After we found out that the sloping compact floor, f169,is not the escarpment, but the floor accumulation which coveres it; we started to remove this accumulation. Alaso we extended our excavationarea toward the south and removed the rest of the natural accumulation of f158 which used to cover the floor accumulation, f169. [Input: S826LH.j]
2008-08-27 lH We completed preparations for exploration for westward extension of the escarpment originally found in J1. From overhead, it is clear that we have located it on the eastern edge of the locus. The search is complicated by the fact that the escarpment is covered by a hard deposit of similar material that has melted from the glacis above, f169. We will continue this project next season.
