In k4 we are digging in what appears to be a room or rectangular area surrounded by a red, eroded layer which could be walls. There is also a smaller area like this about half a metre to the north and parallel to it. We are also digging inside of a small tannur which extends into the northern baulk of k94. removed accumulation, f129, and a very large stone that covered the E-W stone wall, f191. There was a round-bottom jar, i229, sitting upright in the accumulation about 2cm above the stones in the wall. [Input: L828jlw1.j] |

the platform f214 was photographed in preparation for drawing and removal on N820. Ibrahim probed accumulation f532 from north to south looking for evidence for its foundation, but found none. Ju'an began to excavate the material f533 within the platform. The top was hard-packed and had the shape of a shallow dish, but there was no sign of burning. [Input: N819jw.j] |

Ramadan explored the extent of the stone and sherd pavement f545, which underlays another such pavement f490. Stef and Yestafad removed the accumulation f533 enclosed by the three extant walls of platform f214. There is some indication that the north wall, made of mudbrick, is founded on a surface of baked brick. Clarification will be a key goal of the work here tomorrow. fab noticed that a small block of accumulation in lower NW corner of f214 contained material similar to the Phase 5 kiln waste seen in k14 and k13. We will investigate as the excavation of that part of the platform proceeds tomorrow. [Input: N820jw.j] |

We began to remove platform f214 which is the focus of our attention. We removed sherd streets f490 and f545 which lay to the east and south of the platform. Underneath was a very hard, smooth accumlation f551 which may have been compacted by earlier use as a street. We excavated the accumulation f533 contained by the north, east and south walls, reaching the level of a floor comprised of several baked bricks f547 and some hard packed clay laid on crumbly red packing f506. We removed the north wall which was made of inferior bricky material overlaid upon sherds. In the interior, we reached lines of large stones underneath the surface cover on the east and south sides. Clearly they demark the SE corner of a room and the fact that the baked bricks are at the same elevation as the floor of room a35 probably links the two. We excavated from west to east since the west side had been previously damaged. [Input: N821jw.j] |

Ahmed and Mizar removed the lowest floor surface f533 enclosed by the walls of platform f214 and began to excavate the underlying packing f506 and fill f507 below it. Mizar expanded the excavation to the west into k94, digging as far as a large stone that looks to be in line with those being identified in k93. In the process he removed a small platform of unfounded stones f556 and the accumulation below f557. Upon reaching the same level as f533, it appears to continue south to the large stone, perhaps providing some evidence that the Phase 2 brick floor below is similarly bounded. With respect to the E-W line of stones on the south side, all appear to be deeply founded. However, there is a gap that is filled with baked bricks. The N-S wall on the east side seems to be made of mortar, a few baked bricks and unfounded large stones. [Input: N822jw.j] |

To excavate a 1.5 m test trench from the west end of f170 to the stone layer in the east. This test trench is next to stone wall f191, so we want to determine the depth of this stone wall as well as whether there is a floor associated with it. [Input: L818okk1.j] |

tomorrow, after removing overlying floors and packing, we will continue to carefully follow floor f558 to the south, east and west. There are indications that we are at the very top of these bricks. [Input: N822jw.j] |
