Recovery/Assignment

Daily notes about recovery of elements 2008-08-25 lH The test probe which we oppened it yesterday, f166, to the north and above the revetment wall, turned to be a new locus, k102. we continued excavating this test probe in order to collect more pottery sherds that might be found among the big limestones and under the fist-sized stones of this locus. Unfortunately, we didn`t find any new evidence or any new pottery sherds that might help at the chronological understanding or the typological analysis. [Input: S825LH1.j]
2008-08-26 lH After we removed the granular accumulation, f171, which used to spread all over this test prob, we found more than fife big limestones. Among the last mentioned stones there is the reddish granular accumulation, f175. We collected small amount of pottery sherds from the accumulation of f175, so we extended the borders of this locus towards the north about 70 cm in order to collect more pottery sherds that might help at the chronological understanding of what we presume the original revetment wall in k12. The soft chunkey natural accumulation of the new part, f176, didn`t give us enough pottery sherds. So we removed one of the big limestones in the middle of this locus to collect more sherds from the reddish granular accumulatin, f178, under that stone. We covered this locus with plastic bag at the end of our excavation day to protect it from the derts during the night. Tomorrow we will put the stone which we removed today back above a plastic bag. [Input: S826LH.j]
2008-08-27 lH We completed excavation and backfilled the locus. Dug the natural accumualtions, f182 and f183, in the eastern extention in order to obtain pottery for analysis of the phase when that part of the revetment wall, f3, was built. After the backfill, jW noticed that there was a layer of reddish material (excavated in a previous season and showing on an adjacent east baulk) which would have covered the stones of this locus. [Input: S827LH.j]
Argument 2008-08-27 lH This red covering was similar to the baqaya glacis as it met the revetment wall in the excavations in J3 to the east. Since all evidence there pointed to wall construction in Phase 1, we can assume the same situation existed in the vicinity of k102 and that this portion of the revetment wall was also built in Phase 1. Time Sequencing

Roster Date Author Record
Typological reasons for assignment 2008-09-03 mKB the shape sherds were not sufficient to date the features securely. All features had few sherds except f166. Date of the features probably Phase 1 but given the number of Late Chalcolithic body sherds it could be early in Phase 1. [Input: S903MK~1.j]
