General Description

The Late Chalcolithic Tan Slipped ware can be identified by its tan slip and carbon core. It has chaff temper and chaff can be seen in both the section and the on the surface.

Characteristics

Basis for Definition	Few sherds from any area.
Identifying Attributes	Tan slip over a red firing clay, carbon core.
Clay Type	Medium to coarse.
Temper	Small and medium lithic temper, much medium length chaff on the surface but mostly fine chaff in section.
Firing	Medium to low, in many sherds a thick carbon core.
Firing Cloud	None.
Color	Surface tan, interior red.
Surface Treatment	Slipped and therefore somewhat smooth.
